Besides the obvious; being a master at their subject matter and being prepared, I think having empathy, being patient, flexible and adaptable are what makes a teacher great. These are qualities of the heart, you have to have them in you. I truly believe these are the qualities that separate a teacher who relies solely on their degrees versus truly understanding the needs their students; because there’s such diverse needs in the classroom, and they can meet students where they are.
