DIYit: Make Your Own Rosemary Oil

One of the fastest growing trends in DIY projects is creating your own essential oils for candles, liquid potpourri, or other aromatherapy fragrances for massages, is a simple project with sweet rewards….essential oils. You can use flowers, fruit, herbs, or spices… it’s easy. Use the instructions below to make your own rosemary oil from the distinctively fragrant fresh herb, rosemary. 

Rosemary

You can use the oil for massages, for flavoring foods, making perfumes, soaps or lotions. It energizes, invigorates and uplifts the mood when feeling fatigue.  It can also boost memory recall, helps with concentration, and increases blood circulation.

Mason Jars
 Things you Need:
  • Fresh Rosemary
  • Olive oil
  • Mason Jar
 
  Instructions:
  1. Wash rosemary in water and allow to completely dry.
  2. Fill up clean mason jar with fresh rosemary.
  3. Fill jar with olive oil until rosemary is completely covered
  4. Place lid on jar.
  5. Place jar in a sunny window for about a month.
  6. Strain the infused oil into a clean jar
  7. Discard strained pieces of used rosemary
  8. Add fresh rosemary, if you like, for a distinct visual.
Note:   Rosemary essential oil should never be used undiluted, or neat, but should always be properly blended with carrier (base) oils (such as olive, grapeseed, or jojoba oils) or diluting in some other way. And, since rosemary essential oil is very stimulating, it should not be used by epileptics or those prone to muscle twitches and spasms, or pregnant.
